I wonder if you have across this really cool 'glue' I was making a some samples for The exploded letter (a soon to be released tutorial) and had all these fiddly bits to glue. Glue sticks go gungy, PVA buckles the paper and for wheat starch or even methyl cellulose, the paper should really be stretched.
