These are true "artist's book" and as you page through any of Susan's books, you can take enormous pleasure in her juxtaposition of texts, the wry humour, the subtle lettering and the perfect balance of image and text. There is something so caring about every page and yet it never looks hurried and never looks laboured. Susan Moor & the Lindisfarne Collaborative Project

Remember my Lindisfarne piece? Well Susan Moor is the person who initiated this exciting project. Susan will be giving a talk at Letter Exchange at the Artworkers' Guild on London on 15th January at 6.30 pm. A peek inside Susan Moor’s books

Susan Moor developed a modern form of lettering inspired by the Cnut style which was similar to Carolingian. This is what we did at the workshop. Susan does her letterforms using a drawing nib Brause 66EF (extra fine) a flexible, but a strong nib. She has written in a pressure-release style getting slight thicknesses on her lettering where required - much as one does in copperplate.In her books we see elegant scripts written in gouache over watercolour-washed pages. I had an incredible workshop with Susan Moor, who visited Oxford Scribes.Her Artist's Books are breathtakingly beautiful and it was very interesting hearing how she developed her by-now recognisable and unique style.Susan spent every Tuesday in Durham Cathedral collecting images by drawing and created her text by listening, thinking, feeling and writing.  A part of her final MA presentation was seven simple pamphlet bound books with line drawings. Elegant, understated and the sort of book you … [Read more...]
