Oils are so much easier to frame than other artworks, because they don't have to have glass or mounts. There are several options to consider with framing: If the oil painting is on stretched canvas, especially if it is deep, or if it is on board with a deep edge, you can 'get away' without a frame. A tulip for Mum
The day after my mother died six years ago on 15 April 2010, my brother Des photographed this orange tulip in her garden. So when I was looking for close-up photographs of tulips for the tulip project, this one really resonated with me. Mom was a very gentle artistic woman, born in Bridport, Dorset in 1923, lived in South Africa for 56 years and returned 'home' aged 80, after my father died. Shadows and reflections
One of the exciting things about starting something new - like painting still-life - is to discover what abstract qualities you like painting. I adore shadows and reflections (and pattern and texture). In this painting, there are the reflections of light on the bottle and a coloured shadow cast by the bottle.
