Lino Workshop in Gloucester

After a beautiful drive through the countryside  I had a very warm welcome at the Gloucester Lettering Arts workshop. The aim was to go home with a Christmas card done as a lino print. And just look at this! Transferring a lino cut design

How to transfer a design from layout paper onto that blue and green Japanese vinyl This one has really baffled me - I have asked tutors, at a printmaking shop (Intaglio) and looked online. You get this wonderful substitute for lino which is a Japanese vinyl - blue on one side and green on the other but you can't transfer a design onto it. Lino Cut

Another lino cut!  I did the one on the left last year, but since there are two churches, one in Chilton and one in Harwell, I had to make another one for the Harwell welcome pamphlet. Planning the design has bothered me for ages because I wanted it to be in a square to match Chuilton Church. However Harwell church is very long and always viewed side-on. John Muafangejo

John Muafangejo (1943 - 1987) was a black South African artist and is probably one of the most respected black artists from the apartheid era. Certainly he takes world stage with his lino cuts! When I lived in Cape Town we visited an exhibition of his work in 1986 and my husband and I each chose one piece.  I chose 'Snow in Finland was making Artist fall twice' and Dave chose "Muafangejo's Kraal".I still count them among our most prized artworks.
