Embossing at Cinque Port Scribes

Embossing can be done beautifully by hand using an agate burnisher and a hand cut stencil. However, a printing press can increase the production of embossed images using hand cut stencils for something like wedding invitations, like this image by Tony Woodhams.  Rowena Dallas-Mayer made her template for this lovely B by cutting out the B from Saunders Waterford HP 300gsm and then sticking the background onto some archival mountboard. Behold how good…screened and cut letters

Here is the screened piece I started on Friday. I'm not too sure if I carried off the informal spacing, but I think I'm happy with it. I must say, it was really fun to just draw and cut letters without agonising. The photo was taken in the winter dappled sunshine to show the embossing. The B has a menorah behind it and there is a design at the bottom. I am making a "poster" for an elderly gentleman's 80th - he was a vicar and I was asked to do a card for everyone to sign. It's turned out to be A3, but that was because I had the idea of screenprinting. I'll put it into an folder and they can sign that. His name is Bruce, so I looked for a verse starting with B. So, Horatio? Into the Gap!This is my Artist's Book year and I am determined to research it thoroughly.
