Reflections – My year in paintings 2016: part 4

I am looking back at my creative year and goal setting for 2017. This is helping me keep track of the way my work is trending. I'm very keen to work at contemporary landscape this year and with this in mind, took numerous photos of one of our daily views which I titled 'The Lone Tree' - actually an isolated  clump of trees on a large hill, or barrow. Lone Tree near Wittenham Clumps

Here is my most recent watercolour study of skies, painted in Dorchester on the day I photographed the lone tree in the large oil painting below. I took some photos of the lone tree and dropped the family off (husband Dave and grandchildren) to walk over the Wittenham Clumps to Dorchester. Summer Cloudscapes

I have now been painting in oils for six months (since I was a student 40 years ago, painting hard-edge abstracts) and this is my first summer as an oil painter! So far, I've been doing small still-life daily paintings, and huge vases, with a tulip interlude. But summer beckons with the big skies of Oxfordshire and I just have to paint these vistas of clouds.
