Adolf Bernd Workshop – Cinque Ports Scribes

April 19, 2016 by Lin Kerr 2 Comments

Here is a snapshot of the work done on day one. (I lost the name tags! oops - sorry) You can see how everyone has been diligently mixing colour swatches and painting on either side of white lines 'freehand' Adolf Bernd did not use masking fluid, but he had an advantage over us in that some of these letters are a mere 7cm tall (some are 20cm) but all of Bernd's were between 35 and 45cm in height. Yes! He worked big. As soon as you get a sense of the monumentality of his lettering, you realise … [Read more...]

Screen printing at Cinque Port Scribes

June 7, 2013 by Lin Kerr 1 Comment

This was the sixth and final printing technique we had on offer at the Cinque Port Scribes  Summer school. She then took it one step further by peeling away the B by … [Read more...]

Monoprints and off-set printing

June 4, 2013 by Lin Kerr 1 Comment

Still looking at the workshop at Cinque Port Scribes. I love this technique: Roll ink over feathers - then lay them between two sheets of Chinese rice paper and roll over them with your roller.Voila! The trick is to get the ink really really thin on the glass. Roll the roller in the ink, then lay cardboard cut out letters onto some fresh paper, cover with a clean sheet and gently roll over that. You get the same effect as a pencil rubbing, but subtler.  Els Van Den Steen was experimenting with … [Read more...]
