Hand made cards for kids

March 10, 2015 by Lin Kerr 1 Comment

I've been blogging about ideas for making your own cards. When its comes to cards for children, the only goal is to delight the child - forget about impressing the parents! It's always my goal to make the card fairly quickly and painlessly - 30 minutes max. otherwise these cards just won't happen! I just downloaded some galaxy pictures and glued them onto the background for a Lego man. This is a 3-D card for an 8 year old boy. Origami cards are always fun - use brightly coloured paper if the … [Read more...]

Portrait of the Village Church

February 18, 2015 by Lin Kerr 2 Comments

My granddaughters, 8 and 6 have now completed 3 "portraits" of houses, and I thought it would be lovely to do the village church. I invited three other little girls from our village who are 8, 7, and 6.  Today it's half-term and there was a brilliant blue sky despite it being only 10 degrees, so we started 'thinking and looking'. Ai-Wei-Wei

Ai WeiWei in the Chapel Imagine a quiet chapel, filled with beautifully crafted hand-made slightly old-fashioned wooden chairs. At first they look the same. Then they don't. Add to this some evocative poetry written by his father, being recited.  Or you may read it yourself between recitals. It is an 18th century chapel, newly refurbished in the grounds of Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Ai Weiwei designed this 'sculpture' but will never see it, for he is under house arrest in China. I sat on one … [Read more...]

Adolf Bernd; Art Deco letters and masking fluid

October 31, 2014 by Lin Kerr 2 Comments

I'm back from my travels and I have so many inspiring creative things to chat about but I need to catch up a bit while I sort my photos and my thoughts. So let's get back to where I left off. I gave the 'Adolf Bernd workshop' in North London two weeks ago - and then did not manage to write it up! Anyway, here are a few samples and the approach. All these letters have been painted using just two opposing colours. The N's are by Alison and the left G is my demo - using the Burnt Sienna and … [Read more...]
