The Chinese Vase

February 8, 2016 by Lin Kerr 2 Comments

My first large vase painting is complete!

The Stillness of a Chinese Vase 750mm x 450mm

This oil painting has been such fun and I’m feeling really exhilerated because it is the first large oil painting I have done in many, many years. I carved the background to give it a textured but 2-D feel, and put metallic aluminium onto the stem of the vase. You can see photos of that stage in my previous blog about the Chinese vase.

Then of course it was a matter of deciding how much detail to do so that it still looks painterly.
Here is a detail.

This is NFS (not for sale) at present but will be shown at my exhibition at Didcot Girl’s School, opening on Wednesday 24th February. See the invitation below – and you’ll get more details on tomorrow’s blog.

      Hi Carole
Thanks so much – I am finally feeling that I have a subject that I can explore at many levels…trying out ideas in the daily paintings and huge vases. Have a look at the artist Giorgio Morandi.
      Thanks for responding. Lin
