Daily Painting – Pear #2

February 3, 2016 by Lin Kerr Leave a Comment

I have begun a series of daily paintings in oils and I hope you enjoy this new project of mine. These paintings will be for sale but at the moment we are still developing the website. I am hoping to launch this series on Leap Year – the 29th February. These means that you will be able to give a friend an original oil painting as a special gift at an affordable price.

You may have seen this painting before, but keep scrolling…

I loved the way this pear is balanced on its delicate stem. The bright white patch is done with quite thick paint.

and a nugget:

This is an added extra to the daily painting – a technique,  background information  or a story.

Pear#2 started with a simple sketch

I like starting with an underpainting by first of all rubbing the gesso panel often using a warm colour like raw umber. Then the pear is drawn sketchily, using a paintbrush or pencil.

… using a large brush and oils that are diluted with a quick-drying medium. I make my own, but you could use W&N Liquin.
Then I start the painting in earnest!
