This time last year, I had set myself the project of doing a daily drawing for 6 weeks. (This year it is daily painting for three months – scroll down to see today’s!) I was in Singapore visiting my son and his family and I did some of my drawing at the swimming pool at the condo.
After I had taken the photos of Nomi (4) below, she insisted on taking one of me (on my ipad of course)
So, here I am (above) in the lap of luxury, able to do my daily drawings aka urban sketching.
Nomi is painting one of the projects from my children’s colour-mixing books, Red, Yellow and Blue.
And this is the a portion of the interleading pools – a 40 minute drawing…
and a detail. When you draw everyday you quickly learn what you love drawing the most. The water? I kept wanting to paint the patterns, the pink and green leave, the exotic fruit and the details.
After being away from fine arts (as opposed to calligraphy) for so long, you not only have to find your favourite medium, but you also have to find your style. You can’t necessarily paint the kind of artwork you admire because you can only sing with your own voice. And finding that voice can take a while.
And now, I feel as though I have arrived. Oil-painting – yummy.
