Gift Voucher for Oil painting

December 14, 2015 by Lin Kerr 4 Comments

…or for that matter for any art course.

I thought you may like seeing the little gift voucher I designed , 7cm square, called ‘a blank canvas’. Obviously this is for my oil painting course and I did it for someone whose husband wanted to give his wife the course for Christmas.

I had originally planned to do a quick abstract on the canvas, then the second thought was to paint half green and half blue and cut out and glue my lime tree on. And then the right idea popped into my head. A blank canvas!

Doing individual paintings is all extra work and actually its nicer to get your own little 7cm square canvas, for you to paint yourself. And now it’s all ready to post tomorrow. Giving a gift voucher towards an art course is a lovely idea and I know Ardington School of Art has gift vouchers. I’ll be teaching Alphabet Soup and gilding there next year, but there are loads of wonderful courses on offer there.

I am most honoured that they have invited me to do artweeks there in May 2016.

Oh, and the mini canvas is available online and at lots of art shops. Google ‘7cm x 7cm mini canvas’.

Super idea Lin. I have used these small canvases to teach Illuminated Letters workshops as it gives the learners a “finished” product they don’t need to mount or frame. They also get the option to use water colour paper and/or vellum but the canvases are the most popular choice. The slightly textured surface is a bit tricky for very small brushes for the letters but for most learners they are building up their skills using very small brushes – canvas-water colour paper-vellum. Thank you for sharing Lin. Geseende Kersfees en Gelukkige Nuwe Jaar! Tina x

      Hi Tina
What a good idea Tina. is this using Gouache or acrylic? When it was one of the my big-birthdays a few years ago my daughter gave each member of my family – including her children – a mini canvas to do something for me in designated colours (Blues, greens and oranges) and the results were lovely.
En ‘n wonderlike Kersfees vir julle ook. Ons kook die ‘Capons’ buite in the Weber, natuurlik!
      Liefde, Lin

With gouache Lin. Being a Rooinek in Durbs we still had a traditional turkey dinner before jumping in the pool to cool off in those sub tropical temperatures! x

The rooineks in Cape Town went to the beach after church & presents, then began cooking at about 4pm and ate outside under the stars at 8pm or 9pm. Those were the days. My hottest ever Christmas was in Barberton at 38 degrees. Whew. But don’t you just love the lights and romantic atmosphere hee. The decorations look lovely (by and large) whereas in SA the tree is a pine branch which dies too soon and the baubles look like tat.
