The day has dawned for my lesson with the 10 and 11 year-olds at the village school. The weather forecast was rainy until noon and the lesson began at 1.00. I did a demo in the class room explaining the techniques, so that they ‘knew where they were going’ with the instructions. I tend to teach techniques and leave the drawing up to them at this age. When they are older and more self-conscious about ‘getting it right’ it’s appropriate to teach drawing skills.
The 25 children walked down from the school to the bank opposite the village shop. There were four of us – myself, two art-Mums and a teacher for crowd control. It was quite windy the the children had to hold tightly to the polystyrene paint containers. We washed their brushes for them between colours, but since most of the drawing was in a Sharpie felt-tip, it was easy.

This boy began very confidently and became absorbed in the patterns of the bricks and gables.
Fortunately there was a little table so everyone could line up in a queue to do the creeper with screwed up paper, dabbing with green acrylic.
We were delighted with the results.
Wonderful. What lovely works. You can see that the young artists really looked at the building. All recognisable but different. Great .
Wow! What stunning results! Congratulations Lin and the Young Artists. Superb work! 🙂
