Fritillary

February 17, 2015 by Lin Kerr 2 Comments

I first came across this dear little bell-like flower in Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s flower painting. I thought he’d invented a checked flower! But no, it really is checkered and moreover it is known as the Jewel of Oxfordshire. 17-02-15 fritillaria72

I wove some of my handprinted monoprints and laminated Chinese rice paper to the back to keep them form falling apart, then cut and glued them. I had also machine stitched  “Fritillary” on the lower right, but in the end decided to crop it as there was too much white space.

ha ha I thought exactly the same when I first saw one of these gorgeous delicate little gems – I thought I had found a new species! I agree with too much white space but I do like the stitched title.

One of my favourite flowers too! I love the effect you’ve achieved.
